About BridgeMaghreb
About Me
Badr here. I'm originally from Morocco, now based in Barcelona, Spain. Teaching has always been part of my life — I used to give extra classes to Moroccan students in various subjects. I also taught Darija to non-Moroccans in both Morocco and Spain.
I never planned to start this project. But suddenly, I found myself wanting to build a web app to teach Darija. I realized I had to combine the tech that's already available and make the human element — me as a teacher — a fundamental part of it.
My Teaching Philosophy
I looked at existing textbooks and saw I could develop my own simplified version. Now I'm developing a course for each class — two pages with four sections:
- Dictionary — Key vocabulary
- Pattern — Grammar structure we practice together
- Dialogue — Real situations and context
- Practice & Homework — Record and submit
No fake Fusha. No passive memorization. Just training — repeating patterns, building fluency through active practice, and real conversations that lead to real progress.
About BridgeMaghreb
BridgeMaghreb is more than teaching Darija. It's about building a community of learners who want to connect with Moroccan culture and understand it better.
Our learners include:
- Foreigners learning for family or to live in Morocco
- Moroccans raised abroad who didn't get the opportunity to learn Darija
Everyone learns at their own pace. Some want to go slow — no rush. Others are intensely motivated to learn as soon as possible. Both are welcome.
All teaching happens on Discord. That's our home — where we train, talk, and interact. Every class is live: 45 minutes, twice a week. You record. I correct. You improve.
Why I Teach This Way
I designed each sprint to be 4 classes and done. Commitment matters. The real challenge is keeping learners with us sprint after sprint.
You might think teaching with the mic off sounds passive. It's not.
Most students who buy pre-recorded courses never finish — over 90% don't get past 10% of the content. In traditional live classes, students speak 2 minutes per class if they're lucky.
Here's how I visualize my class: Students practice out loud as we go. Even if I don't hear them in the moment, that drill is the most important part. Then they record, submit, and I give detailed feedback. That's real practice. That's real progress.
Let's Learn Together
As we grow, we'll build a team of coaches to support learners and add more activities and materials to the community. The cost of each sprint will become a fraction of what we can deliver.
No robots. No AI. Just real coaches helping you speak like a local.
The more students we have, the more value we add. You're not just a student — you're part of building this.
